Throughout the research of Lough Neagh, I discovered the majority of the North of the lake was not being enjoyed or respected by the public due to Private land ownership. I decided to propose a path from Toome town to my chosen campus site for the EPA, accommodation and restaurant along the Creagh road in a more discrete location on an old sand dredging site.
Whilst drafting out my path, I drew the human straight walking line, contrasting with the natural shoreline edge, in which I extruded out the human line path at points of rest along the path enabling the public to enjoy views of Lough Neagh at these ‘looking points’.
Studying the ground and drawing the path aided me to design my ‘natural edge’ elements of the buildings that cantilever over the lake.
Similarly, I used the ‘human line’ of my path to develop the form of the back of my buildings having a more rational form, in which I would fit in all the services needed within the buildings, so that the cantilever ‘natural edge’ elements had more impact.
